Michelle Thibodeau is a 23 year old, bilingual singer-songwriter, born and raised in Moncton, New Brunswick. Two years ago, she migrated to Toronto in pursuit of the musical opportunities the city can provide. The acoustic-driven music style has always been Michelle’s aim and her East Coast roots are very evident in her music. Some of her other influences include Joni Mitchell, John Mayer and Fleetwood Mac. In the last few years Michelle has released 3 originals singles: Let It Move You (2014), Hey Hitchhiker (2015) and Checkmate (2016 Factor funded). Her music has received Canada-wide airplay on CBC Radio One including 9 radio shows, and she has been featured on blogs such as Canadian Music Blog, Infectious Magazine, Neal Heart Magazine and recently she did performances on Rogers TV and BuzzLocal.TV.
Michelle has a passion for many instruments, but accompanies herself with a guitar, loop pedal, and/or piano at her live shows. Since moving to Toronto and completing the Artist Entrepreneur program at Canada’s Music Incubator (Coalition Music), Michelle has performed at more than 20 venues including 3 Bier Markt locations, The Rivoli, Union Station’s Holiday Market and at Indie Week (Lou Dawgs 2015, Painted Lady 2017).
In addition to her Singer-Songwriter career, Michelle is also a Musical Theatre performer and graduate of the Canadian College of Performing Arts. Some of her professional stage credits include Liesl “16 Going on 17” in The Sound of Music, a finalist for the role of Dorothy (Mirvish) on Andrew Lloyd Webber/CBC’s Reality TV Show “Over The Rainbow” and her upcoming role of “Nancy” in Oliver! with the Capitol Theatre (NB) in February and March 2017.
Michelle is in pre-production for another recording project of original songs with Ian Bodzasi, and will hit the studio in April when she returns to Toronto. She is planning lots more live shows for the end of the year when this project is released and is excited for everything 2017 has in store!
